Multi-sector Alliance Slams Land Use Planning Changes Proposed by Ontario Government that Would Severely Damage Agriculture and Natural Heritage Without Solving the Housing Crisis

The Niagara Escarpment Foundation has endorsed a report by the Alliance for a Liveable Ontario released today that calls on the Ontario government to halt proposed changes to the province’s land use planning laws.

These regressive changes would irreparably harm Ontario’s agricultural sector and waste limited construction and development resources building housing in the wrong places.

The proposals would fuel urban sprawl, thereby massively encroaching on Ontario’s prime farmland and rich diversity of wild natural habitats.

The NEF takes the view that these government proposals are unconscionable and would take Ontario backwards to the lack of responsible land use planning that we suffered from in the1950s.
